new kid felix leifur made quiet a stir with his debut release on dirt crew last year. the icelandic juggernaut comes from the striving reykjavik music scene and is working closely with the lagaffe tales guys on building a new northern house empire. since his debut hes been working hard on creating a more varied vision of his unique lo slung hip hop approach to house music. with this ep he offers six new outings that have one thing in common, very warm and moody sounds ranging from disco through jazz and hip hop. were certain that he will continue to further cement his name in the coming years and were looking forward to working with him on plenty of exciting projects. opening with eyelids, felix delivers a rough, deep and dark house cut with broken beats, warped piano loops and twisted sampling throughout. classy has a smoky jazz feeling, kept tight with clever beat programming while evolving around a catchy sax motif. our personal fav is the title track, in general, a stunning broken beat house jam, smooth and loose, with swirling keys and a funk flavoured bass. the b-side begins with midwinter, a dance floor gem on a straight up junket. its deep, forward moving and bass driven, much like his track feels like that featured on our deep love compilation in 2016. yet another highlight for us is apollo, theres not many records out there that sound quite like this, thoroughly warped and contorted, depraved strings and a hypnotising rhodes arc and strain until the bass drops and it all falls in place psychedelic beauty! he closes with mine, a dope lo fi hip hop beat that casually wraps our ears, an ice cold soul infused piece.

claudio casalini s best record label does a fine job of reissuing funk, disco and other curios from the mists of time, and so it goes with this wonderful slice of loose and live soul jazz. grupo almendra hailed from venezuela, and they released their sole album almendra in 1978 in a whirlwind of latin american musicality and it had been consigned to relative obscurity. whichever digger was lucky enough to discover this gem must have been very pleased indeed, for the quality of the music and the production is nothing short of remarkable, while the remastering has respectfully revived the sweet, soulful sound of grupo almendra.

a subtly appealing tape in a pink cover with an imposing artwork of highly erotic nuances: this cassette, originally promoted as candy-coloured sex-shop electronics, is the absolute gem of internazionale s discography and is clearly destined to become a timeless modern classic. together with the track the charnel house, included on the compilation ny dansk romantik, the excellent craftsmanship of elegy for the victors quickly evoked the loyal admiration of listeners worldwide who were captivated by its charm. this earned the danish artist a cult status and established him as an accomplished composer. the ambient music with an industrial flair of his earlier releases becomes organic in elegy for the victors and acquires life: a life depicting gorgeously melodious passages which tell a story of happy sadness or of sad happiness. such narrative is constructed by means of a lo-fi but majestic and emotionally charged sensitivity, gentle waves of haunting loops, cinematic samples and sweet maritime sounds which will hypnotise you. this is the long-awaited remastered vinyl reissue with a new artwork which, beautifully and more appropriately, captures the melancholic essence of a masterpiece of rarefied elegance.

recorded in haiku-pauwela, maui between 3rd febraury and 14th february 2016 anthony child aka surgeon presents the second volume of recordings of buchla music easel recorded in the jungle of maui. again we find child s in a more ambient guise and setting as the calm breath of the jungle sets a real time back-drop for his electronic explorations. there is no additional layering and all environmental sounds simply occurred throughout the improvisations. the range on display veers from melodic drones to sparkling arpeggios all revolving around a thick bed of (buchla) electronic and (environmental) acoustic interplay. nine personality type map hovers on a bed of syncopated rhythms whilst the nearby sonic mist of the forest seeths in and out of the frame whilst nightfall of diamonds provides a sonic analogy for the darkness and light contradiction that occurs only in such rich natural environments. the simultaneous acts of improvising, listening and creating provide a rich setting for the curious listener. another gem in a catalogue filled with gold.
